A Well-Liked Present For Kids: Cybertronian Optimus Prime

The most current installment from the Transformers saga hit retailer shelves on June 22, 2010 - as a video video game, that is. Activision's take on the Transformers story line focuses on what may be considered a "pre-quel" of sorts, or an origin story of how the head from the Autobots rose to his revered position.

Prime Before His Time

Admirers of the Transformer's animation show in the nineteen-eighties, and by extension Hollywood's most recent revision of the tale, will immediately identify the distinction in the new/young Cybertronian Optimus Prime. For starters the video game's story is set on the transformer's home planet, Cybertron, torn apart by the conflict between Decepticons and Autobots.

Instead of the traditional big-rig Optimus Prime, Activision chose to provide the leader from the Autobots a distinct alternative form compared with what fans are accustomed to seeing. The "younger" prime takes the form of an armored truck mounted with cannon prepared to blast.

Origin Of A Hero

The storyline of War for Cybertron takes place well ahead of the Autobots come into contact with people and in a sense fills in storyline holes noticed in the nineteen-eighties cartoon series that started the Transformers tale. Optimus Prime's assignment in the game is to rally the Autobots to help save planet Cybertron from Megatron and the Decepticons given that the leader of the Autobots, Zeta Prime, is reported to have fallen in battle.

The Cybertronian Optimus Prime becomes, in some way, forced in to a position of command to test his mettle. Rather than the confident, formidable leader seen in the TV show and big-dollar silver screen creation, Activision's portrayal of Optimus Prime concentrates around the heavy load and sacrifice of leadership. You could say that Optimus Prime, like a young, novice general, is promoted before he is prepared.

Prime On New Platforms

The primary core of Transformer enthusiasts, at the end of the day, most probably will remain devoted to the franchise and buy into the video game's story. Activision, to see to it that enthusiasts do, has licensed the War for Cybertron on all video game platforms like Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Nintendo's Wii and DS.

Thus far both the video game and action figures have received very good ratings from consumers, but in all fairness, a lot of Transformer hardcores say the game play in the game itself leaves something to be desired. Generally, Activision's newest take on Optimus Prime works nicely.
