When the Transformers aired in 1984, who would've thought we would be still speaking about a show pertaining to humanoid robots which can transform into automobiles and aircraft in order to save our planet? Nevertheless what started off being a Saturday morning children's cartoon ballooned into a multi-million dollar business over the years. One could point out that the prosperity of Transformers may be followed through the evolution of the franchise's most famous character, Optimus Prime.
Prime In The Beginning
Action figures are nothing recent to the gadget business, and there's little indication today of the trend slowing any time soon. Optimus Prime toys and other items along those lines, have persisted to remain a staple in the toy boxes and Christmas time dream lists of little kids since the early 80s.
The first Optimus Prime action figure included a unique trailer to hitch on to it any time Prime was in his truck theme. The rig's front grill plate has since that time become synonymous with the "good" transformers of the collection, the Autobots. Occasional fans may well not know that the original title for the Prime toy was "battle convoy", but in due course the name was altered by comic book writer/editor Dennis O'Neil. The standard was now established for the subsequent series of Prime figures.
Pre-Millennium Prime
Transformers began to adjust during the 90s after having a decade-long run at the head of the group. If you were to look back at the Optimus Prime items, this change gets to be subtle yet detectable. The action figures themselves began to sell as non-transformable gadgets strangely enough. Many included gear like combat platforms and other bells and whistles, literally. One type of Prime in 1993 added an LED pulsating fist.
Prime also went through what you might refer to as a makeover in the early nineties. One type of toys modified the leader of the Autobot's regular red, white and blue look in favor of a red-black paint job. The change turned out to be brief however given that by this time Prime's picture had grown to be synonymous with the Transformers franchise. The show would even spin off different off shoots of different transformers so that they can keep up with the changing times and capture brand new followers.
Prime According to Hollywood
Michael Bay's reinvention of the Transformers series came out in 2007, beginning yet another demographic of youth to the adventures of Prime and his Autobots vs Megatron as well as the devious Decepticons. Other transformers may have altered their shapes, but Prime stayed essentially the same Prime which survived the test of time. Other Autobots progressed into the newest versions of sports and utility autos, but Bay's Prime retained his big rig transforming same at it's been since the 80s, although with the latest CGI special effects.
